Towards Configurable Motion Capture with Prioritized Inverse Kinematics

چکیده
This paper explores the potential of prioritized Inverse Kinematics for full body motion capture. We are especially interested in compensating for the use of a minimal set of sensors by proposing pertinent constraints associated with a priority level. We evaluate the believability issues and the performance requirements arising through a case study exploiting recorded motions of professional clarinet performers. We conclude by presenting a framework in which end users can easily configure the IK engine for 3D real-time interaction.

Integrated Analytic and Linearized Inverse Kinematics for Precise Full Body Interactions
Despite the large success of games grounded on movement-based interactions the current state of full body motion capture technologies still prevents the exploitation of precise interactions with complex environments. This paper focuses on ensuring a precise spatial correspondence between the user and the avatar. We build upon our past effort in human postural control with a Prioritized Inverse ...
متن کاملHuman Motion Reconstruction by Direct Control of Marker Trajectories
Understanding the basis of human movement and reproducing it in robotic environments is a compelling challenge that has engaged a multidisciplinary audience. In addressing this challenge, an important initial step involves reconstructing motion from experimental motion capture data. To this end we propose a new algorithm to reconstruct human motion from motion capture data through direct contro...
متن کاملEnvironment-Aware Postural Control of Virtual Humans for Real-time Applications
Interactive control of a virtual character through full body movement has a wide range of applications. However, there is a need for systems that accurately reproduce the motion of a performer while accounting for surrounding obstacles. We propose an approach based on an efficient Prioritized Inverse Kinematics constraint solver. The inputs to the system are the acquired positions of relevant b...
متن کاملTowards Model-Based Capture of a Persons Shape, Appearance and Motion
This paper introduces a model-based approach to capturing a persons shape, appearance and movement. A 3D animated model of a clothed persons whole-body shape and appearance is automatically constructed from a set of orthogonal view colour images. The reconstructed model of a person is then used together with the least-squares inverse-kinematics framework of Bregler et al. [4] to capture simple ...

Convincingly animating virtual humans has become of great interest in many fields since recent years. In computer games for example, virtual humans often are the main characters. Failing to realistically animate them may wreck all previous efforts made to provide the player with an immersion feeling. At the same time, computer generated movies have become very popular and thus have increased th...
